Beechside Garden Railway

G scale

When we first moved into the house and decided to alter the fairly uninteresting and tired garden, we were undertaking the childcare of our eldest grand daughter who was not yet of school age. It seemed a good chance for me to persuade the Beechside planning authority to go for a simple garden railway, for the grand daughter to play with, of course. Perhaps a future redesign of the garden could lead to something more interesting.....who knows! But this is a very simple first step - a r/c live steam loco is being eyed up when the girls are a bit older and understand what "really hot" means!
The layout couldn't detract from the garden, so a simple loop with one passing place was used as a lawn edging with two removable stations. So far, the locos include two r/c PlayMobil ones suitably modified to look less toy-like. The third locomotive is powered from the track, but battery r/c control is being investigated to overcome the issue of rail cleaning. This loco and the track are LGB.
