Our Gardens

Every one of the homes we have owned ourselves have required us to build a new garden from scratch or rebuild the garden we inherited. This page records the last three of the garden journeys we have undertaken together. Click on each of the buttons at the foot of this page .

The Old Barn  was a remote rural location near Caldbeck in Cumbria with two acres of only grass from which we created our favourite garden ever, but which required a huge amount of effort to maintain, and was still under development as we left.

Beechside, to which we moved from The Old Barn, had a back garden that measured only 15 metres x 10 metres, and we enjoyed the different challenge of creating a tiny cottage style garden. It demonstrates a change of lifestyle as grandchild care commitments took more of our time!

Bishops Mill was another complete change. Old age and health issues encouraged us to move away from living on a hill for the first time, and saw us move into a bungalow. With grand children now a little older, we could take on a much larger garden again as the previous one had become frustrating to two keen gardeners, and so we started building a garden from a blank canvas yet  again.
