Railway Game

RAILWAY FUNDRAISING GAME FOR CHARITY

Designed for use by young children, the base boards rest on tables and measure 4 feet square when in use. The loco is a radio-controlled, battery powered G gauge with one carriage, so no electric supply is needed. There are 3 stations, a tunnel and an un-gated level crossing; track is a simple circle of plastic Playmobil track. The diesel shunter has lights and a horn to be operated - to the annoyance no doubt of neighbouring stall holders at charity fairs! It was originally built for a local charity, DEWODE, for the Keswick Victorian Fair, but may also be at other events in the area.
HOW IT WORKS
For a small charge, the driver gets to trundle the train around the track a few times until the "controller" (one of the charity volunteers) signals time to stop. The driver chooses to stop at one of the 3 stations: Applethwaite, Bassenthwaite, or Calthwaite. The driver then chooses one card from a pack of three. Once turned over, if the letter on the face of the card matches the first letter of the station in which the train is stopped, it's a win! Maybe a prize or your money back.
The game was originally built for 'DEWODE, Uganda', a locally based charity that supports a group of women who are determined to change their plight and that of their community in an area of Northern Uganda. The charity has provided tools and seeds, wells, school equipment, and has now built a health centre. Fundraising pays for staffing and continued development of the health centre. One rural community in northern Cumbria, helping another rural community in northern Uganda. To learn more visit www.dewode.co.uk
